How to Avoid A Boring Wedding Reception

6/8/2013

Your wedding reception is the celebration of your new life together. A celebration should mean fun, joy, and happiness.

Just about the worst thing that could happen is a boring wedding reception. You might have elegant decorations and good food, but if your guests are bored they will leave early and no one will have a good time.

To avoid this dilemma here are some tips about how to have a joyous and fun wedding reception:

  1. It is important to have an entertainer and Master of Ceremonies (also known as an MC) who knows both the bride and the groom. If you cannot find anybody from your family or friends to act as the MC, then hire one. Just give the MC an idea of how you want the reception to be. Make sure that the MC you hire is not boring because the outcome of your reception entirely depends on him and your program. Ask your friends or family if they know a seasoned MC who really knows how to get the party going. Ask for several references to make sure that you have the right person.
  2. Make your reception as lively as possible at a pace that keeps your guests engaged. Long speeches are one of the biggest contributors to a boring reception. Tell your parents, the maid of honor, and the best man to make their speeches as short and as direct to the point as possible.
  3. Show a photo montage about how the groom proposed or how you met. Share these romantic experiences to your guests and let them feel the magic too. Make sure to add humor to your presentation. Do not be too serious unless it's needed, for example, when you tell the person how happy you are that you've met.
  4. Choose interesting and well-paced music. Hire a live band that can cover a variety of music fit for a wedding reception. Play music during dinner; just make sure it isn't so loud that it interferes with conversation. You can play ballads when the guests are still eating or for the bride's dance with her father or those other romantic couple's dances. When it is time for the guests to dance, make sure you pick up the pace. If you cannot afford to hire a live band, compile a list of songs and have a DJ do the mixing for you.
  5. Ask the maid of honor or the best man to offer a toast after their speech. Once the marriage toast is done, the bride or groom may make their own speech thanking the guests, families, and friends for coming.

I like that you suggested having a live band that can cover a lot of music genres. I would definitely follow your advice to make our wedding a memorable night. Our wedding will be on this coming December, so I hope to find a band that can offer that as soon as possible.

I liked it when you shared that it is great to make your wedding reception as lively as possible by keeping your guests engaged. My friend just mentioned the other day that she is planning to get married in a few months and she wants to make sure that everything is going well according to plans. I will suggest to her booking a great wedding venue for her reception.

My favorite part of this article is the importance of showing memories and pictures with your guests. My best friend told me that he and his fiance are planning their wedding, then he asked me if I have any idea about wedding packages. I appreciate your explanation, I'll be sure to tell him that they can consult trusted event planning experts as they can help them with their wedding.

This is an amazing article to really liven up a wedding reception. I think hiring a live band would really help especially with the mood of the room and environment. Are there any particular band types you would say are good for the wedding? Also, how much can I generally expect to pay for a wedding band?

Thanks so much for the ideas on how to keep the party entertained during the reception. I have a friend getting married soon and they're trying to find a wedding venue for the day. We'll have to be sure to find a venue that'll allow us to do everything we want to plan.

Thank you for pointing out that one way to make the ceremony more poignant is to present a photo collage of how the groom proposed or how the bride and groom met. My friend wants to have a picture montage during her wedding ceremony. I'll advise her to look for a suitable location to create the picture montage.

Your wedding day is supposed to be the best day of your life, but if your wedding reception is boring, it'll be a day you'd rather forget. To avoid having a boring wedding reception, consider hiring a wedding DJ. A good DJ will help get your guests out of their seats and onto the dance floor. They'll also take requests and play music that appeals to all age groups.

When it comes to wedding receptions, the entertainment can make or break the night. Hiring a DJ is a great way to avoid having a boring reception, but there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, make sure to communicate what kinds of music you and your guests enjoy. Second, give the DJ some direction on what kind of atmosphere you want to create. Third, provide the DJ with a list of songs that are special to you and your spouse.
